Charles-Schneider-pic-602x399-300x200Charles Schneider (R-West Des Moines) who was beat Desmund Adams (D-Clive) in the special election for Iowa Senate District 22.  Schneider beat Adams 56.5% (5,371) to 43.3% (4,117).  Adams was originally running against incumbent State Senator Pat Ward (R-West Des Moines).  She died of breast cancer on October 15th.  She beat Adams in the general election 56.35% (19,067) to 43.23% (14,626) posthumously, but state law required the general election results be voided and a special election to e called.  Iowa Senate District 22 includes Windsor Heights, Waukee, Clive and parts of West Des Moines and rural Dallas County.

Charles Schneider was nominated by Polk County and Dallas County Central Committee members from Iowa Senate District 22 on November 8th.  Schneider is a lawyer and a member of the West Des Moines City Council.  This win gives Democrats a two seat majority 26-24 in the Iowa Senate where State Senator Mike Gronstal will continue on as the Senate Majority Leader.
