The Republican Party of Iowa State Central Committee moved the state convention date back to June 14, 2014 from July 12th. The change was made to accommodate what was thought to be a potential conflict with the canvassing period stated in Iowa Code in the case that no U.S. Senate candidate reached the 35% threshold after the primary on June 4th. Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz rendered his interpretation of Iowa law and said on September 13th that there would not be a problem with nominating a candidate during a June convention.

A.J. Spiker then called for special meeting by teleconference to discuss whether or not to move the convention back.

The State Central Committee also moved the 2014 precinct caucuses to Tuesday, January 21, 2014 to coincide with the Iowa Democratic Party.

County conventions will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014. District conventions will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014.
