U.S. Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE) spoke at The Gospel Coalition’s annual conference on Tuesday morning and it was an address like no other that I’ve heard from a politician.
That’s probably because Sasse, who never ran for office before running for U.S. Senate, is not your typical Senator. He has said numerous times and in numerous venues that politics isn’t important. The changes happening economically and culturally in our society is not something, ultimately, politics can adequately address. Our hope should never come from politics.
Our hope is in the Cross, the empty tomb and in the Kingdom that is to come, not temporal power found in D.C.
When is the last time you have heard that from somebody in Washington, DC?
The title of his message is “What Does Washington Have to Do With Jerusalem?” I encourage you to take time to watch not only his message, but the Q&A afterwards.
This message shows why over the last year he has become one of my favorite members of Congress.
