I'd bet she'd lose the case. As a public figure it's very hard to will libel cases.

And sorry to say, I don't see a 24-hour news industry handling rumors well. Case in point: The folks behind the "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" managed to muddy the waters with unsubstantiated innuendo for weeks. And they're still getting contracts for political groups instead of fines or jail time. There are still those who believe that Obama wasn't born in the Hawaii. That such a rumor even got airtime is a crock.

I think the person who said the following at a March 2008 Women in Leadership conference had it about right:
"I think fair or unfair, and I do think it is a more concentrated criticism that Hillary gets on so many fronts. That’s unfortunate, but fair or unfair I think she does herself a disservice to even mention it. You got to plow through that. You have to know what your getting into. Which I say this with all due respect to Hillary Clinton and to her experience and to her passion for changing the status quo, but when I hear a statement like that coming from any woman candidate with any kind of a perceived whine about that excess criticism or a sharper microscope put on her that doesn’t do us any good."

Not the "internets," but media that should know better. Argon, I like Huckabee, but he hasn't had anyone accuse him of criminal behavior. A lot of lies have been told about her, but they are going after one particular item, the embezzlement rumor. This is libel plain and simple. I spent a couple years in J-School and that was hammered home, you just can't print or publish rumors like this as though they are fact. They are wrong to do it. She sues them, she'll win.

That charge can tarnish her regardless of what she decides doing in public or private life.

Perhaps then they won't think it's so funny.

Agreed that Romney is a cipher. He'll say anything to get into office but nobody knows what he'd do once he is in. On one hand I can appreciate his apparent pragmatism but on the other, it gives no one a reason to support him except as a manager. He has strong support from business interests but for me, that's a reason to not support him.

A good chief of staff perhaps, but not commander-in-chief.

Let it play out. We'll see. It may be scandal, it may be personal. And now we see that her lawyer is threatening to sue "teh Internets". That's not going to fly. I think Huckabee was right: Go silent.

Meanwhile, the GOP faces a third or fourth week where they can't grab headlines about major issues in Washington because of state-level brouhahas.

No it seems like she was sick of her time being spent dealing with frivolous ethics violations and it downgrading the effectiveness of the Governor's office and adding to her personal debt. Now she's free from further complaints and she's free to travel. I don't know if she's shooting for 2012, but here's my thought about Romney:

Anyone but Obama or Romney in 2012 (provided they are conservative) which Romney still doesn't have a record to prove that he is. All he has is talk.

No I haven't. Carl Cameron from Fox News dismissed that since his Alaskan sources and Alaskan reporters he talked to haven't heard any whispering. For instance, there were rumors going around about Mark Sanford before that blew up in his face.

If there was something it would have come out during the '08 campaign while the DNC was trying to dig up dirt.

I agree, Shane. Meg Stapleton has altogether ruled out a run against either Murkowski or Young. She said that other than those two things "the world is her oyster".
