I'm 37 Today

Senior Picture To the right is my senior picture taken almost 20 years ago (technically 19 1/2 years ago).  I thought I’d post that for your amusement.  In my defense, it was the 80s and this certainly looks better than the pink and gray striped shirt that I had; worn proudly with my thin gray leather tie.  So cool.  I must say I never, ever gave into wearing parachute pants.

You know, 40 seems pretty young right now.  It is hard to believe I have a teenage daughter, and a son who will be in 6th grade next year.  Our baby of the family is 9!  Also even though I have as much gray hair as my father I am thankful I have hair.  I am also thankful for my beautiful wife and those three great kids.  I am a blessed man.

    Happy birthday Shane!

I'm not too far away from you. I'll be 39 this year with a soon-to-be 16 year old stepson and a soon-to-be 14 month old son. We are both very blessed men.

Happy birthday. God's blessing to you this year.

    Joe.

Happy birthday OLD man! ;-) I can say that because I am ONLY turning 36 on Saturday! :-) May God richly bless you in the coming year!

  6. Lisa Graas says:

Ah, I fondly remember boys in pink with thin, leather ties. :-) Nice picture. Happy Birthday! May the Lord continue to richly bless you with His peace and joy and with an appreciation for all His gifts — especially the gifts that children are.

    P.S. I'm 41, and I'm okay with it. :-)

  7. Deacon Blue says:

As a child of 1968, all I can say it, “Happy Birthday, whipper-snapper…now get off my lawn!”

    ;-)

  8. Carl says:

Man, dont worry about the grey hair. Proverbs says it is a crown of Glory. When I was 18 you could see my balding already. I have not found a good bible verse about a bald head… maybe somewhere.

I am just a little behind you in the ol age… but 40… ugg!

  9. Mel says:

    Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Happy Birthday Shane!

I too am an 80's kid.

  14. Wow, Joe things are hopping at your house.

  15. LOL… at least I'm not getting any AARP stuff yet.

  16. I looked hot with that leather tie, I'm sure you would have swooned. Well, maybe not, I'm not Obama.

  17. Getting off sir. I do respect my elders ;)

  18. Carl – see 2 Kings 2:23-27

  19. Yes, yes… the decade that brought us MC Hammer, Madonna, Van Halen, Def Leppard, and New Kids on the Block.

    Pretty screwed up, LOL.

  20. AndyC says:

Have a great birthday. 40 is young, especially when you are pushing the other side of 50 like I am!

  21. Renae says:

Happy Birthday! 40 gets younger and younger, doesn't it? ;)

  25. HiScrivener says:

    My God, My God!

You are a brave, bold man. If I showed the afro-ridden, half-baked cat who was in my Senior picture, “The Writing on the Wall” would have a demolition ball hurled at it with the quickness of the rapture. I just can't even bare it.

    You, sir, have moxie!

    Happy birthday, my hero. :)

  26. Very true. I hope God doesn't give me a reason to have to appreciate my hair more :) .

  27. Belated congrats! Aren't the 30s the best? Hope this year is the greatest ever for you…

    ellen

  28. Thanks Ellen, yes they've been my favorite decade of life thus far. I appreciate the birthday blessing!
