John Piper answers a tough question based on Hebrews 4:15:
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin, (ESV).
When Piper was talking about categories of sin, I thought of another helpful passage in 1 John.
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world – the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and the pride of possessions – is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever, (1 John 2:15-17, ESV).
With that “filter” take a look at Matthew 4:1-11 where Jesus was in the wilderness being tempted by Satan. I’m not saying that account is the only time Jesus ever faced temptation in his 33 years or so on earth, but I found it interesting nonetheless.
