I have been disappointed by the venom that I have seen from conservative pundits when it comes to their treatment of Governor Mike Huckabee.  I know that he shouldn’t get a pass and that his record is up for scrutiny just like any other candidate, but the attacks toward Governor Huckabee has been over-the-top and mean-spirited.  With some of the posts and comments I read on some conservative blogs I would have thought I was reading Huffington Post or Daily Kos.

Matthew Lee Anderson of Mere Orthodoxy had a two part series on Huckabee Versus the Establishment which sheds some light on why this is the case.  You can read part one here, and part two here.

Also Joe Carter of Evangelical Outpost also shares his take on why this is the case in his post – “The Manhattan Conservatives Endorse Romney“.

Michael Medved has a great article on Townhall.com about why Huckabee’s drive helps the GOP, and shouldn’t be seen as harmful.

Then there is the whole brouhaha over Governor Huckabee’s Christmas Ad, you can watch it here and then watch the Governor’s comments on the ad here.  One of the more outrageous statements was from Congressman Ron Paul who said on Fox News’ Fox and Friends show.

It reminds me of what Sinclair Lewis once said. He says, ‘when fascism comes to this country, it will be wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross.’ Now I don’t know whether that’s a fair assessment or not, but you wonder about using a cross, like he is the only Christian or implying that subtly. So, I don’t think I would ever use anything like that.

You can watch it here or below

I’ve seen this video a number of times and I’m still flabbergasted.  Simply outrageous.  Well it seems like the more often the hits come the higher Huckabee goes in the polls, so I guess keep them coming.

  1. The GOP hate Huckabee because they always thought the evangelicals were just useless idiots. This is what happens when you pander to religious radicals….soon they not only want a place at the table, but they want to run the damn meeting!

  4. Kougar,

In a democracy everybody deserves a place at the table. We do have some say in who the nominee is, just like every other voting block. You don’t see Huckabee tearing his opponents apart though.

Also, the GOP does not hate Huckabee – if that were true he wouldn’t be a frontrunner. It is the Wall Street – Washington, D.C. GOP elite that don’t like him.

Also, Kougar I would appreciate changing your tone if you comment again. We appreciate a civil discussion here along with thoughtful responses. You follow the typical secular humanist response. Belittle your opponent and call them stupid. Not a real argument.

By the way, Merry Christmas :).
