  1. Q. Did you watch Obama’s speech? What were your thoughts?
    A. Yes. Who’s going to pay for all this?

Plans? Ball game tonight, cookout tomorrow, Homecoming Sunday, recover Monday.

Personal opinion? McCain’s pick of Palin – good choice.

  4. When I first checked out the website – it didn’t have the announcement. That is new today, but it was pretty telling.

I agree Palin is a brilliant choice. His VP pick was going to be crucial for me.

  7. I liked the speech.. look forward to hearing McCain’s speech next week.

I think that veep candidate Palin is a mistake.. especially for someone who has been blasting Obama’s “lack of experience”.. guess we will see how she works out.

This Sunday will be my wife Ann’s first opportunity to leave the house in weeks.. she is doing better and we hope to do church and a restaurant on Sunday.. nothing planned for Monday.

  11. Maybe you can speak to what you like about Palin Shane.. why you think the choice is brilliant.. and, other than her obvious conservative positions, what do you like about her and her leadership experience.

  15. Maybe brilliant was overstating it, but what I do like:

    1. Her conservative positions – both socially and fiscally. I also like the fact that when the rubber meets the road she acts on her conservative believes (not aborting her 5th child when discovered to have Downs’).

    2. She doesn’t have much experience, but the experience she does have is the type nobody else on either ticket can claim – executive experience – she’s run a state. I personally would have preferred that it wasn’t her first term, but still is more than what the other guys have.

    3. The fact that she isn’t a Washington insider – so McCain can steal some of Obama’s “change” thunder.

    4. She’s a woman – I don’t want to play identity politics, but this is a historic moment for the GOP. The GOP needs to get beyond being a party for old white guys.

    5. From what I’ve heard about her she’s a maverick and somewhat feisty. Looking forward to seeing her debate Biden.

Now there are weaknesses – you mentioned one. The other is we haven’t seen her on the national stage, so not sure how she’s going to do.

My overall preference would have been Huckabee, but I was pretty sure that wasn’t going to happen. Palin brings both social conservatism and fiscal conservatism.

I think she’ll be able to speak with authority on the energy crisis – in particular drilling in ANWAR.
