Do you notice the contrast in the magazine covers?
If anybody claims that the mainstream media isn’t playing favorites with this campaign either are deluded or just have their head in the sand.
Fox News’ Jana Winter reports on their America’s Election HQ Blog::
The popular celebrity gossip magazine Us Weekly has jumped into the political ring, feet first, with a scathing article about Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.
On its most recent cover, due out on newsstands Friday, the magazine shows a picture of Palin with the headline, āBabies, Lies & Scandalā ā a marked contrast from its gushing review of Barack and Michelle Obama that ran two months ago.
Critics say this cover, which was released a day ahead of Palinās acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, is a sucker punch aimed at the GOP ticket, and is a blatant attempt to influence the votes of the magazineās 12 million mostly female readers.
Us Weekly publisher Jann Wenner is an outspoken supporter of Barack Obama and the Democratic Party.
āWhen you look at this Palin cover and contrast it with the super-friendly story on Obama, itās hard not to see that theyāre clearly biased,ā said Jane Hall, associate professor at the American University School of Communication. āItās not fair and itās also offensive. I think that they are going to be offensive to many people regardless of whether youāre for Sarah Palin or not.ā
The fact that Jane Hall is crying foul should say something since she typically defends the media in their presidential coverage on shows like the O’Reilly Factor on Fox News where she normally appears with Bernie Goldberg. Amazing. I’m sure they are going to claim that they were fair in their coverage. Incredible. I’m PISSED.
Update: Megyn Kelly interviews the senior editor of US Weekly yesterday… just had a chance to watch it tonight.
