I won’t be able to watch live tonight.  I had hoped to be liveblogging this, but I’ll be in a meeting instead.  I will update this later along with Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal’s response for the GOP.

From the White House website an excerpt:

But while our economy may be weakened and our confidence shaken; though we are living through difficult and uncertain times, tonight I want every American to know this: We will rebuild, we will recover, and the United States of America will emerge stronger than before.

The weight of this crisis will not determine the destiny of this nation. The answers to our problems donā€™t lie beyond our reach. They exist in our laboratories and universities; in our fields and our factories; in the imaginations of our entrepreneurs and the pride of the hardest-working people on Earth. Those qualities that have made America the greatest force of progress and prosperity in human history we still possess in ample measure. What is required now is for this country to pull together, confront boldly the challenges we face, and take responsibility for our future once more.

Some chatter around the web on this:

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs is hinting at a “Reaganesque” speech.  Ok.

ā€œThe president believes very clearly that we have to be honest with the American people about where we are,ā€ White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said on MSNBCā€™s ā€œMorning Joe.ā€

ā€œHe will,ā€ Gibbs said, ā€œtell the country that weā€™ve faced ā€¦ greater challenges than the ones we face now, but we as Americans always meet those challenges. But in the Reaganesque words, there are always better days ahead.ā€

Well already officials in the Obama Administration are claiming that Obama has done more in 30 days than any President in modern history.  Could he please stop?

Update: No I haven’t watched it yet, but I will.  Look for an another update.

2nd Update: I finally watched it, my thoughts here.

3rd Update: Thoughts on Jindal’s response.
