Ultimately the primary question that needs to be asked is when does life begin?  Every other argument really doesn’t matter in light of that question.  If life doesn’t begin at conception then abortion doesn’t matter.  If life does begin at conception then no reason can provide adequate justification for the taking of unborn life.

I’ve just heard one of the most articulate arguments for the pro-life cause from a source I wasn’t expecting – Kathy Ireland.  She was being interviewed by Mike Huckabee on his show on Fox News.  She spoke of her faith in Christ, and then Governor Huckabee asked her about her switch from being pro-choice to being pro-life.

You can watch the interview here or embedded below.  A big HT to Justin Taylor via Ray Ortlund for bringing this interview to my attention.

I don’t quite agree with her statement regarding abortion when the mother’s life is at risk.  I believe with the advance of neonatal care that argument is pretty well moot.  I appreciated her comments about how we treat those who have had abortion.

Very well done Mrs. Ireland!

  1. That was an incredible interview! Thanks for sharing. I agree with you on the 'health of the mother' issue. Mostly because it is a dangerous myth and lie perpetuated by the left. The truth being that it is more dangerous to terminate a pregnancy for someone experiencing health issues, and could kill or permanately harm the mther. The other problem is defining what exactly is the health of the mother. Currently the definition includes depression. In other words, if the mother says she is sad or worried about this pregnancy, then termination is considered ok for the health of the mother. Most Americans are not aware of that and most pro-abortionists are glad to keep their loopholes hidden.

I think this needs to be shown everywhere! I put it up on my facebook page and sent a digg about it. Thanks again!

  2. I believe the only solid example of a pregnancy that puts the mother at risk is the ones that are outside of the womb– Fallopian is the most common form.

The baby grows, ruptures the tube, and they both die.
(this is the only reason I support research into artificial wombs)

These instances even the Catholic Church allows indirect abortion– the removing of the area where the poor kid is implanted.
