On October 14th, Lord Christopher Monckton spoke at Bethel University in St. Paul, MN on the subject of global warming at an event sponsored by the Minnesota Free Market Institute.  He warns us about an upcoming climate change treaty that will, if signed by President Obama, according to him, will usurp our constitution and give away our sovereignty.  Excerpt of his speech in the video below.

You can watch the whole speech hereGlenn Beck interviewed him on his program today, you can listen here.  I had two people contact me since Saturday about this speech and then heard Rush talking about it this afternoon.  It is the first I’ve heard about it, and will see if I can find a copy of this U.N. treaty.  If anyone has a link to it, please leave it in the comments below.

One thing I’d encourage those who follow Christ, and my pre-millennial dispensationalist friends especially,  is not to go into apocalyptic hysteria.  Let’s take time to find this and read it so we can engage our Representatives and Senators.  Remember that any international treaty needs to be ratified by Congress before it can be implemented.

So I’m not saying don’t act, but I am saying act with thoughtfulness and respond with facts.  I’ll update as I learn more.

  1. I heard about this yesterday and found a copy of the first Proposal on the World Wildlife Federation’s website http://assets.panda.org/downloads/copenhagen_climate_treaty_060609_1.pdf which is an interesting read. I have seen a couple of different links for different versions of the treaty, so I’ll check out the link from chicagobluesgirl.

One of my Australian friends googled the name of the Aussie on the committee list for putting this together and found all sorts of info about how he is not really a climate change expert, etc etc etc and she wonders how many more on that list are there under false pretenses as well. Just a side note… 🙂

And next year will be an election year, thank God.

I’ve never understood the interpretation that makes a treaty superior to the Constitution — that would make a treaty effectively an amendment, and we have an amendment process — but since it always falls to our all-powerful and unpredictable courts to make these determinations, it’s certainly best to stop this thing early.

    1. @ChrisB, It is false interpretation and one in which the Founders certainly wouldn’t agree.

We would do well to quash this, and I highly doubt that it will get ratified in the Senate…. provided the decision is made in the “light of day.”
