When I first saw Governor Sarah Palin post on this I wasn’t sure exactly what she was talking about since I hadn’t heard about it.  Then Josh kindly directed me to this Fox New article.  Man, my head wants to explode:

Rep. David Obey, D-Wis., chairman of the purse string-controlling House Appropriations Committee, is calling the idea a "war surtax." He said that just as the federal government is expected to pay for its proposed intervention in the health care sector with new taxes, any escalated involvement in Afghanistan should come with a payment plan.

"If we have to pay for the health care bill, we should pay for the war as well … by having a war surtax," Obey told ABC News in an interview that aired Monday. "The problem in this country with this issue is that the only people that has to sacrifice are military families and they’ve had to go to the well again and again and again and again, and everybody else is blithely unaffected by the war."

Sen. Carl Levin, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, is making a similar demand.

You know what Congressman Obey and Senator Levin?  I already pay for what is going on in Afghanistan.  It’s called the income tax that is taken out of my paycheck.  I can’t help that you and your cronies squander it via earmarks so you don’t know how to pay for things.

I’ll help you out.  Here’s a thought, and hear me out here.  Let’s cut spending on items that aren’t mandated by our Constitution.  I know, what a silly idea!  Defense, it’s in there.  Umm… TARF, Stimulus, and Healthcare well they’re not.

Let’s get our priorities straight gentleman.  Since President Obama is now finally making a decision on Afghanistan (which has to set all kinds of records for the amount of time it took) we should, at the very least, fund it without trying to hose the American taxpayer because of your lack of fiscal discipline.
