Recently, White House adviser Paul Volcker said that the United States may need to consider a European-style value-added tax (VAT) in order to help bring deficits under control. You can be sure that I will not support such a tax when I get to Washington. In fact, the Federal Government should be looking for ways to cut spending and cut taxes, not increase taxes to support the out of control spending of the Obama Administration.

The American people simply can’t afford to pay any more taxes. And it really isn’t necessary. Like my family and yours have to do when times are tough, our government needs to stop spending money we don’t have. At the end of the day, someone has to pay the bills and in this case, the Obama Administration is planning to leave a massive debt for our children and grandchildren.

A look at the use of the value added tax utilized in Europe readily shows that it would dramatically affect the middle class of America. In some parts of Europe, the VAT rate reaches 20% and applies to products and services.

I will strongly oppose any attempt to add or raise taxes on the American people, because we are already paying far too much in taxes to local, state and federal governments. The Democrats have made it clear that they want the United States to become a European styled welfare state, and in order to do that they need European tax rates.

Well, I have news for them. We will fight against any increase in taxes. Enough is enough.
