Day 10 of the “Roberts for Lt. Governor” campaign – The short, whirlwind campaign to get Representative Rod Roberts on the ticket as Lt Governor ends, and now the convention is about to begin. The future of the Republican Party in Iowa rests with Governor Branstad’s decision for running mate.

June 22, 2010 – Wednesday marks the end of a very short and very intense whirlwind campaign to get State Representative Rod Roberts on the ticket as Lt. Governor. What started as a local effort by a small group of Pottawattamie County Republicans has gone beyond anything imagined by the group just 10 days ago.

Governor Terry Branstad will now be presented with the results of their efforts. The results include a list of signatories to the online petition and a list of Republican Party leaders willing to go public with their support for Representative Roberts in this effort. The presentation will take place at 12:00 noon Wednesday, June 23rd at the following location

The final list of party leaders publicly supporting Roberts has now been assembled. The count is as follows,

  • 28 – Republican County Chairs
  • 12 – Republican State Representatives
  • 2 – Republican State Senators
  • 4 – Members and former members of the Republican State Central Committee

Those willing to publicly acknowledge Representative Roberts would make an excellent Lt. Governor but not offering an endorsement of any one candidate include,

  • 1 – Republican County Chair
  • 1 – Republican Statewide office candidate

Those privately supporting Representative Roberts but not offering a public endorsement,

  • 1 – Former Republican State Chairman
  • 1 – State Senator from the 5th district
