image I’ve already said it once back in March.  I’ll say it again.  Michael Steele needs to resign.  If he doesn’t want to resign, then the Republican National Committee needs to have a spine and oust him.  It’ll take a 2/3 majority vote and I personally will contact my National Committeeman and Committeewoman in this matter.

I agree with Bill Kristol, his tenure has been a collective failure, full of gaffes and embarrassments.  The latest episode takes the cake for me though, The Hill reports:

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) pushed out the video, which shows Steele saying that the war is of "Obama’s choosing" and that it is nearly impossible to win a land war in the Central Asian country.

"Keep in mind again, federal candidates, this was a war of Obama’s choosing. This was not something that the United States had actively prosecuted or wanted to engage in," he said. "But it was the president who was trying to be cute by half by building a script demonizing Iraq, while saying the battle really should be in Afghanistan. Well, if he is such a student of history, has he not understood that you know that’s the one thing you don’t do, is engage in a land war in Afghanistan?"

What. The. Heck (not the actual word that comes to mind).  Where was he after 9/11?  This was initiated by President Bush to go after the terrorists responsible for the 9/11 attacks because the Taliban wouldn’t give them up.  This is something that at the time the American people by and large supported.  This is a war that almost 100% of Republicans are behind.

Now we can discuss President Obama’s dithering and his inability to relate to those in the military.  This wasn’t a war of his choosing, and I’ll give him credit that we did need to be refocused in Afghanistan.

So Steele needs to go he’s proven that under his leadership a lot of money can be blown and he’s shown a great ability to put his foot in his mouth.  Neither qualities are becoming in a party chairman.

We need somebody who is not going to be all flash and no bang.  I’d be content with somebody who isn’t flashy, who’d realize that he or she needs to promote the party not themselves, and the goal is to fundraise and be a resource for candidates.

All this other stuff is at best a distraction, and at worst could cost us some elections.
