image Council Bluffs, Iowa – September 23, 2010 – Michael Mauro has accused Councilman Matt Schultz of wanting to require Iowans to show identification before they vote because it will give Republicans an advantage.

“These kinds of accusations are wild. How would requiring Voters to show a Photo ID before they vote help Republicans, unless Democrats are already cheating at the polls? My opponent just doesn’t get it, this is not about getting an advantage, this is about fair and honest elections and Iowans know it,” said Matt Schultz.

Recently in a Des Moines Register article Michael Mauro changed his position stating that he would support Photo ID legislation if the State were to provide free Photo ID’s.

“Where has my opponent been on this issue for the last four years. Mauro is now Johnny-come-lately on this issue. I have been arguing for the last year that Everyone should show an Iowa issued Driver’s license or Free State Issued Voter ID before they vote at the polls. The fact of the matter is my opponent is desperate, he has even admitted he only has a 50/50 chance and he does not want to face this issue,” responded Schultz.

Councilman Schultz further stated, “The fact is that over the last four years Mauro has failed to offer any legislation requiring everyone to show a Photo ID when they vote. He is endorsed by the Secretary of State Project an organization supported by liberal George Soros, and they are fundamentally opposed to Photo ID legislation. Mauro’s new position is too little too late, his actions speak louder than his words.”
