Miller-Meeks: "I may be a short Mariannette, but I’m nobody’s puppet"

OTTUMWA, Iowa – Nancy Pelosi’s campaign arm released a negative personal attack ad yesterday calling Republican congressional candidate Mariannette Miller-Meeks a "puppet," despite the fact that Loebsack has voted with Pelosi 98 percent of the time for her big-spending, job-killing record. Now, to preserve his rubber-stamp in Congress, her campaign arm has doubled down last night and spent an additional $270,000 – for a total of nearly $600,000 – to save Loebsack’s hide with six days to go before Election Day.

"Talk about a puppet – Dave Loebsack has voted with Nancy Pelosi 98 percent of the time and the hundreds of thousands of dollars in special interest money flowing into Iowa is the latest evidence of that. Loebsack was there for Pelosi on the failed stimulus bill that ABC News discovered used billions of our tax dollars to create thousands of jobs in China and allowed $165 million in bonuses for Wall Street executives, said Miller-Meeks, a 24-year Army veteran, eye doctor, and small business owner. “He was there for Pelosi on a massive government-run health-care program that cuts Medicare by $500 billion. And he was there for Pelosi on a job-killing national energy tax that experts say will raise costs on Iowa families by $1,300 per year and kill 30,000 Iowa jobs. He’s even got big labor bailing him out with district-wide mailers in return for his Detroit auto bailout vote while Iowa taxpayers got stuck with the bill. That’s not a record Iowans support and it’s why Loebsack is in so much trouble."

She continued, "I entered this race because politicians like David Loebsack were bailing out Wall Street, wasting our tax dollars and sticking the little guy with the bill, and now our kids and grandkids are left with massive unsustainable debt. We need to cut taxes, cut wasteful spending and get the government out of the way so Iowa businesses can start creating jobs again. That’s the only way we can restore our path to fiscal sanity, which Loebsack has destroyed with more spending, more debt and higher taxes."

Last night, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the primary fundraising vehicle for Speaker Pelosi, filed an independent expenditure report with the Federal Election Commission listing another $270,353 in television advertising with six days to go. Combined with $308,266.94 already filed on October 15 and 19, this brings the overall total to just short of $600,000 spent by Pelosi’s campaign arm against Miller-Meeks. All of it has been negative advertising.

Last week, the Miller-Meeks campaign released new polling data from the Tarrance Group showing her leading Loebsack, 45-44 percent.
