image(URBANDALE) – Gov.-elect Terry Branstad announced today that Isaiah McGee will serve as head of Iowa Department of Human Rights in the Branstad/Reynolds administration.

“Isaiah has been an Iowa leader with his involvements in the human service, education and business fields,” said Branstad. “Isaiah will bring a lot of energy to this position, and will serve Iowans well in this capacity.”

The Iowa Department of Human Rights (DHR) is a state agency with a mission to ensure basic rights, freedoms, and opportunities for all by empowering underrepresented Iowans and eliminating economic, social, and cultural barriers.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for me to serve the people of Iowa,” said McGee. “I want to thank Governor Branstad for entrusting me with this responsibility, and I look forward to serving within the Branstad/Reynolds administration.”

McGee is a member of the Iowa Advisory Committee of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, and has served the state in the Generation Iowa Commission and the Iowa Indignant Defense Commission.

McGee received his Bachelor’s Degree in History and Political Science from Cornell College and a Master’s Degree in Education from Drake University. He formerly served on the board for the Greater Des Moines Partnership and the Iowa Homeless Youth Center. Isaiah and his wife, Megan, reside in Waukee with their two children, Elisha and Micah.
