IJW lobbies the Iowa Statehouse to reform the current judicial selection process which is heavily stacked in favor of liberals who believe in a living constitution. Iowa voters should be allowed to elect those who serve on the nominating commissions, and the entire commission process must be made more open and transparent.
We also provide the public with valuable information, such as copies of the official applications that all judicial applicants must complete, essential background information on applicants for judgeships and vacancies on the commissions, information on the judges who are up for retention votes, including conducting our own broader survey of judicial performance.
Finally, IJW lobbies for or against the selection of applicants to judgeships and judicial nominating commissions based on their past writings, lectures, associations, response to our questionnaires, etc. Additionally, we work to recruit constitutionalists attorneys to apply for judgeships and to serve on the commissions.
