I didn’t want to overlook important news yesterday.  In case you didn’t know House Joint Resolution 6, the proposal for a constitutional amendment to define marriage between one man and one woman was passed out of the House Judiciary Committee yesterday.

All 12 Republicans on the committee (Representatives Richard Anderson, Kim Pearson, Dwayne Alons, Chip Baltimore, Julian Garrett, Chris Hagenow, David Heaton, Jeff Kaufmann, Glen Massie, Walt Rogers, Jeremy Taylor, and David Tjepkes were joined by State Representative Kurt Swaim voted in favor to recommend this resolution to the entire Iowa House for debate and a vote.

O. Kay Henderson of Radio Iowa quoted Swaim saying during the committee hearing yesterday afternoon as saying, “I agree with those that think that it’s time for the public debate on this issue to begin in earnest.”

If you believe marriage should be defined as between one man and one woman you need to melt the phones and fill up inboxes in order to let your Representatives know where you stand on the issue.  Also there is no time like the present to let Iowa Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal know it is time for Iowans to be heard on this matter.
