DES MOINES – Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Matt Strawn issued the following statement on today’s demonstrations outside the state Capitol:

“I stand with those Iowans at the Capitol today who are shining a bright light on the need to reform Iowa’s public employee labor laws.

“This debate is not about the value of public employees, but rather giving the taxpayers a seat at the table in public union negotiations. For too long, the taxpayers have been absent in one-sided bargaining that has inflated the state’s budget and created a public class whose wages and benefits outpace those competing in the private sector.

“I look forward to the continued leadership from Iowa Republicans at the statehouse to bring these long overdue reforms to law.”
