I don’t always agree with Bob Vander Plaats or have agreed with the direction that he has taken Iowa Family Policy Center now renamed The FAMiLY Leader (like their opposition to HF 5 for instance).  What I find fascinating is that The Des Moines Register spent money to run a poll on a now private citizen who has no immediate plans to run for office.

Honestly who cares what Bob Vander Plaats’ favorability is?  I don’t recall the Register ever polling the favorability of any other organizational leader.  So the agenda behind this seems pretty clear to me.  Demonize who they deem to be the leader of the social conservative movement or more specifically the opposition to gay marriage.  This also looks like they are taking a symbolic slap at a person who worked to oust judges.

Bob Vander Plaats is one person leading one organization among many who are working to advance social issues in Iowa.  Polling his favorability is pointless, and just makes the Register look like they have an axe to grind.
