The Iowa Senate Democratic Caucus is stalling on the late term abortion ban.  Several sources up at the Capitol tell me it is no longer being held up in the Senate Government Oversight Committee by committee chairman, Senator Thomas Courtney (D-Burlington).  Instead the Senate Democrats are deciding how they can cover the rear ends of some of their members, like Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal (D-Council Bluffs), whose districts would be impacted by Leroy Carhart setting up shop.  They also need to figure out how they can do this while catering to Planned Parenthood as well.

There is no reasonable course of action for them, but to pass this bill.  A man like Leroy Carhart should never be allowed to set up such a heinous, barbaric clinic here.  Jenifer Bowen, Executive Director of Iowa Right to Life also points out that Carhart has a record of not only murdering preborn children during their last trimester, but has also hurt women in the process.

The full investigation that the Maryland Board of Physicians launched this week on late-term abortionist, LeRoy Carhart, is a sobering reminder that late-term abortionists are responsible for injuries to countless women, and some fatalities.  There is ample evidence of late-term abortionists’ misconduct and poor treatment of women seeking abortions that must be brought to light.  We are more determined than ever to see the passage of a late-term abortion ban in Iowa.

The Maryland Board of Physicians confirmed yesterday that they are investigating him for allegedly lying on his application to practice medicine in the state.  Iowa Right to Life will hold a joint press conference with Operation Rescue today at 1:00p at the State Capitol.  Caffeinated Thoughts will be streaming the press conference live.
