Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann said to the crowd at the Ames Straw Poll that we going to together take the country back.  She said (in unison with the crowd) that we’ll make Barack Obama a one term President.

She said in the last 48 days she has been to the “four corners of Iowa and everywhere in between.”  Pointing to her roots growing up in Waterloo, IA she said she learned all of her life lessons by living in Iowa.

“Said it’s time to have a Iowan in the White House” (um, Herbert Hoover?).

She said that Iowa stands for human life.  That in Iowa we believe that we believe in marriage being between one man and one woman.  She said Iowans sent a message to the rest of the country by ousting three Iowa Supreme Court justices.  She vowed to only appoint justices who follow the Constitution.

She said in Iowa we are social conservatives and we are not ashamed of it.  She said we understand religious liberty.  She said that God has His hand on our nation, and that He gave this nation to us.

She said Iowans are also fiscal conservatives pointing to her experience as a federal tax lawyer and as a business owner.  She says she understands that it is a good thing to turn a profit, and that the founders intended that we should keep the fruit of our labor.

Citing the Sullivan Brothers she said if we stick together – Tea Party conservatives, social conservatives, national conservatives must stick together in order to take our country back.

Quick thoughts: I give the pandering award to…. Congresswoman Bachmann.  Seriously though she hit upon issues that Iowans care about, but didn’t give many details.  In fairness none of the candidates have in their speeches today so far.  It just seemed like a pep rally speech to me, but she did rev up the crowd and judging from the size of the crowd waiting in line at lunch today she’s in contention to win the Straw Poll.
