Governor Branstad Declares January 22nd to be Sanctity of Human Life Day

Iowa Governor Terry Branstad giving Condition of the State Address. January 20, 2012–Des Moines, Iowa–This Sunday, January 22, 2012, marks the 39^th anniversary of the tragic Roe v. Wade decision by the U.S. Supreme Court.

“We mourn together for the millions of lives lost; and continue to work valiantly toward the day when all human lives are protected. Iowa Right to Life is honored to stand alongside Governor Terry Branstad as he continues to offer his unwavering allegiance to the sanctity of all human life”, stated Jenifer Bowen, Executive Director of Iowa Right to Life.

Governor Branstad offered the following Proclamation today:

“Whereas: It is imperative to recognize the dignity of each human life; albeit the unborn child, the infirm, the elderly; AND

Whereas: All human life is to be valued and protected in every stage of development, beginning at fertilization with continued deference until natural death; AND

Whereas: Sanctity of human life has been inherently recognized throughout the United States of America since the adoption of our Declaration of Independence; AND

Whereas: January 22^nd is the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court pronouncement overturning states rights to protect the lives of unborn children; AND

Whereas: More than 54 million innocent lives have been lost to abortion in the years following the devastating 1973 Roe v. Wade decision; and the demoralizing impact continues to reverberate from one generation to the next throughout the United States.

Now Therefore, I, Terry E. Branstad, Governor of the State of Iowa, do hereby proclaim January 22^nd, of each year as Sanctity of Human Life Day and call upon Iowans to recognize the value of each human life and vow to protect the lives of the unborn, the infirm and the elderly.”
