Ron Paul Arriving at the Florence, SC Airport
Ron Paul Arriving at the Florence, SC Airport

By Brian Barbour

Dr. Paul is a 12 term US Congressman from Lake Jackson, TX.  He is an OB/GYN physician who served 5 years in the Air Force as a Flight Surgeon.  He has never voted for a tax increase or to raise the national debt ceiling.  He is known as “Dr. No” for always voting against bills that include unconstitutional items.   He has been married 53 years and has several kids and grandchildren, one of which is a Senator in Kentucky and another which is a doctor in Houston.  He is pro-life, pro 2nd amendment and attends First Baptist Church (Lake Jackson, TX).

Ron Paul is doing a series of whistle stop tours here today in South Carolina, leading up to the primary voting tomorrow.   He flew in accompanied by Sen. Tom Davis (Beaufort), Sen. Danny Verdin (Greenville) and wife, Carol.

There were approximately 100 enthusiastic supporters who showed up on about 12-hour notice.  They varied in ages from college students to senior citizens, some wearing suits, and some wearing jeans.

Dr. Paul discussed property rights at length, describing the property tax as a form of rent to the government.  He further explained that not only do they tax us but we have to get permission to use the property that we “rent”, as they see fit.

He also briefly discussed the Federal Reserve and how inflation and debt is destroying our economy.  He has been the author of several books about the gold standard, Austrian economics and the Fed.  He has always stated that all spending is a tax in the form of taxes or inflation.

He also discussed the need to stop the policing the world.  Whether you agree with that or not, we cannot afford it anymore and maintain our current Medicare and Social Security systems.   We fight to protect borders in other countries when we do not protect our own.

After his 15 minute speech he stopped to take pictures with supporters and shake hands.   It was a treat to have Dr. Paul stop by in Florence and I expect a strong showing tomorrow at the polls.
