“I will be a strong voice when it comes to our economy,” Sinclair said. “Iowa needs a business climate that supports entrepreneurs and small businesses, a climate consistent from year to year and free from needless regulation. When we have that in place, we should then focus on preparing students with the math and reading abilities to fill skilled positions.”
The newly created District 14 includes Wayne, Decatur, Clarke, Lucas, most of Marion and part of Jasper counties. Sinclair submitted 423 signatures to the Secretary of State’s office on March 2 to make her run for the district official.
Sinclair has served two terms on the Wayne County Board of Supervisors. She and her husband Boyd, who is a fifth-grade teacher at Wayne Community Schools, have three sons and farm near Allerton. Spending most of the last two decades in southern Iowa, Sinclair has witnessed the struggles facing small business owners and the agricultural community.
Because the economy is an important issue, Sinclair said she will be an advocate for agriculture as State Senator.
“Working a family farm, I understand the importance of agriculture to our state and citizens,” Sinclair said. “I believe agriculture is significant to the state’s economy and can play a vital role in Iowa’s economic development efforts.”
She has held numerous leadership positions on boards and committees such as the Iowa County Engineers’ Service Bureau, South Iowa Area Crime Commission, Community Health Centers of Southern Iowa, Chariton Valley Transportation Planning Affiliate, South Central Iowa Community Action Agency and Wayne County Farm Bureau.
“I firmly believe in giving our best to lift up our community,” Sinclair said. “I will work tomake southern Iowa and our great state flourish. It is vital we reduce the cumbersome regulations that inhibit economic growth. I believe a government that governs least is best and that the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people.”
