President Obama’s nomination acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention was pretty much what you’d expect to hear – hope and change along with failed ideas.
He framed the election in a way I can agree with however. He warned those gathered that “ on every issue, the choice you face won’t just be between two candidates or two parties. It will be a choice between two different paths for America, a choice between two fundamentally different visions for the future.”
Agreed. He then went on to say, “Ours is a fight to restore the values that built the largest middle class and the strongest economy the world has ever known.” Restore the values? Does he and those listening in Charlotte even know what that means? He’s been trying to “fundamentally transform America” the last four years so how can he now claim to “restore” anything. His economic policies have been a train wreck for the middle class. We see again today in the dismal jobs report that was released that he has failed to help to bring unemployment down below 8%. This is 42nd month with the unemployment rate being above 8%.
Then he lied to the American people about his tax policy. “Now, I’ve cut taxes for those who need it — middle-class families, small businesses. But I don’t believe that another round of tax breaks for millionaires will bring good jobs to our shores, or pay down our deficit.” He didn’t cut anybody’s taxes. All he did was sign an extension for the Bush tax cuts, otherwise he would have raised income taxes on everybody. Now he did raise taxes on the middle class through Obamacare. He must have been so proud of that accomplishment since he left he the mention of health care reform out of his speech.
He said it’ll take a few years to solve our challenges, and then he brought up Franklin Roosevelt, “It’ll require common effort, shared responsibility, and the kind of bold, persistent experimentation that Franklin Roosevelt pursued during the only crisis worse than this one.” Oh yes Roosevelt, the architect of our current welfare state. That’s just what we need. I’m thankful that our Constitution now term-limits the President. I can’t even imagine the damage he would do if he had the same amount of time FDR had.
He plans to continue the same green jobs effort that hasn’t led to any significant job growth – again see the unemployment rate. He pats himself on the back for coercing states to adopt the Common Core State Standards either through Race to the Top or the No Child Left Behind waivers and declares that “government has a role” in education. Constitutionally he can’t back that up, and it is evident that the role he sees the Federal government playing is a meddling one.
Then he promised, “and so long as I’m commander in chief, we will sustain the strongest military the world has ever known.” How exactly is that? What has he actually done to bolster our military? Nothing.
He mentions that he has forged new coalitions to stop the spread of nuclear weapons when in reality all I’ve seen is his work to deplete our supply whether or Russia is doing the same. He has made America weak with his naivete. He also told Russia that he can be more flexible if he is reelected. He has cannibalized our missile defense program putting Alaska at risk of a potential North Korean nuclear program. He then has the audacity to talk tough on Iran in his speech. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanayhu doesn’t buy the rhetoric. Neither should we.
Obama then said, “I will use the money we’re no longer spending on war to pay down our debt and put more people back to work.” The money we’re spending on war is deficit spending, so how exactly is he going to turn around and use that to pay down our debt? Also using that money to help put people back to work looks like another stimulus to me, and oh that worked so well the first time. Not that he touts that in his speech. Again see the 42 months of unemployment being over 8% when President Obama predicted in 2009 that when the stimulus passed the unemployment rate would be at 5.6% today.
I could go on. President Obama doesn’t need more time. He needs a pink slip.
