Dave LoebsackDavenport, IA – During the Iowa Public Television debate between Congressman Dave Loebsack and John Archer, Republican nominee for Iowa’s Second Congressional District, there was a lively discussion regarding ObamaCare, its impact on seniors, and the $716 billion in cuts to Medicare.  Congressman Loebsack claimed that ObamaCare does not cut any money from Medicare and the $716 billion is reinvested into the program.

Mr. Loebsack stated, “There are savings that, according to the bill that I voted for, the policy that I support, goes back in to further benefits for Medicare.”  Unfortunately, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) which is the non-partisan organization that provides financial data to Congress, has provided contradictory information.   The CBO stated that savings found in Medicare, “cannot be set aside to pay for future Medicare spending and, at the same time, pay for current spending on other parts of the legislation or on other programs.”

“I am truly disappointed that Congressman Loebsack would make this statement,” says Archer.  “It shows just what kind of legislator he has been for the last six years.  I can see only two ways to explain the statement, either Congressman Loebsack did not understand the bill when he voted on it and still doesn’t or he is attempting to mislead voters about his record on preserving and protecting Medicare for our nation’s and communities’ seniors.  Iowa deserves better in Washington.  We need a representative who will make the difficult decisions and not just fall in lock step with leadership.”
