There is a real lack of amusing church marketing.Ā  This is because churches shouldnā€™t market ā€“ they should tell the Truth, love their neighbors, and take care of practical needs.Ā  Thatā€™s church marketing enough.

But once in a while you see a church or a pastor doing something truly unique and downright fascinating.Ā  I just saw such a thing over at The Daily.

Salvation isnā€™t automatic ā€” but it might be semiautomatic.

In an effort to increase membership, a number of U.S. churches ā€” including the Church of Christ congregation in this rural village 30 miles north of Columbus ā€” are offering an unconventional public service: Concealed weapons training.

ā€œChurch has done a good job with coffee klatsches or whatever, but we havenā€™t really reached out to guys,ā€ said Jeff Copley, a preacher at the church. ā€œAnd guys in Morrow Country, they shoot and they hunt.ā€

Hundreds of students have enrolled in the 10-hour course, which meets the state requirements for earning a concealed weapons permit. The training includes two hours on a church memberā€™s private shooting range.

Hilarious.Ā  Concealed weapons training at church to attract local men.Ā  Weā€™ve seen it all.Ā  And Iā€™m very amused.
