ted cruzDES MOINES, Iowa – Today, Iowa GOP Chairman A.J. Spiker announced that United States Senator Ted Cruz of Texas will be the featured speaker at the Republican Party of Iowa’s summer picnic. The event will be held Friday, July 19 in Des Moines from 12:00pm (noon) to 1:30pm., location to be announced.

“Senator Ted Cruz embodies bold leadership and Iowa Republicans appreciate leaders who stand up for them and fight big government recklessness,” said Spiker. “Ted Cruz is, without a doubt, a leader Iowans will want to meet. As the ‘First in the Nation’ state, we look forward to introducing Senator Cruz to Iowa Republicans.

The appearance of Senator Cruz is the latest in a long line of political leaders the Iowa GOP has hosted during Spiker’s chairmanship. “As Chairman I’ve made it a priority to deliver committed and high-profile Republican leaders to keynote our events,” added Spiker.

Since Spiker’s election to Chairman in February 2012, the Iowa GOP has hosted a variety of national leaders, including Virginia Attorney General and gubernatorial nominee Ken Cuccinelli, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul and former Governor Mike Huckabee.
