Joni Ernst

Iowa State Senator Joni Ernst (R-Red Oak) yesterday filed as a candidate for the open U.S. Senate seat up for grabs in 2014.  She joins a growing Republican field vying to replace Senator Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) who is retiring after this term.

“As a mother, soldier, and a conservative, the values I hold dear, and have fought more than 20 years to protect, are being threatened by the failed policies of this president,” Ernst said in a statement found on her new website.  “Washington has failed us. We need and deserve better leadership. And that’s why I am running for U.S. Senate.”

“She’s in,” David Polyansky, Ernst’s campaign manager, told Caffeinated Thoughts.  “She is running and next week she plans to share her conservative message with Iowans across the state.”
