(DES MOINES, IA) Today, Republican U.S Senate candidate David Young extended a welcoming invitation to the chief of Congressman Bruce Braley’s EPA, Gina McCarthy, to visit an area farm while in Des Moines on Thursday.  Tomorrow’s pit stop in Des Moines marks McCarthy’s first trip to Iowa as the agency’s Chief.  Iowa is one of the leading agricultural states in the nation and first in corn and pork production.

“While talking to farmers around Iowa, the number one issue I hear about is overreaching regulations from agencies like the EPA,” said David Young, republican candidate for U.S. Senate and former Chief of Staff to Senator Chuck Grassley. “Iowa is home to more than 90,000 farms, I encourage Chief McCarthy to accept my invitation to provide an introduction to just one of them. There, Chief McCarthy can learn how a farm operates and just how harmful new EPA regulations would be to jobs and production.

“I learned the ropes by bailing hay and walking beans growing up in Dallas County. Perhaps some of that would help the EPA better understand Iowa farming and which regulations simply do not work.”

When discussing such EPA regulations last month at Obama’s alma mater Harvard Law, McCarthy said, “Can we stop talking about environmental regulations killing jobs, please?”

David Young says that his answer to Chief McCarthy’s question is, “No.”

Unfortunately, Congressman Bruce Braley—a true champion of EPA regulations—could not make himself available for the EPA’s visit.

Some of the Obama/Braley EPA’s biggest priorities in agriculture include:

  • The Cow Flatulence Tax
  • Cap and Trade
  • Regulating Dust from Farming and Corn Chaff
