(Chicago, IL) AP reports that the American Civil Liberties Union hired Next Generation Public Affairs to legalize marriage for same-sex couples in Illinois.  Former Iowa GOP Chair Matt Strawn started this firm along with former Illinois GOP Chair Pat Brady.  Strawn is not a registered lobbyist in Illinois.

Yet his firm is.  The previous attempt to legalize same-sex marriage failed so the firm has been hired to work on Republicans.

I remember when Matt Strawn ran for Iowa GOP Chair.  He produced a video for his campaign.  In it he discussed fighting for “our shared values” and “not sacrificing our conservative values” to win elections.

I guess that’s out the window now.  To say this is disappointing is an understatement.  I liked Strawn as a state chair, and I like him personally.  I thought he was a good state chairman.  I didn’t like how he handled the Iowa Caucus results, but over all I appreciated his tenure.  This feels like a betrayal.

We need to remember which party is the party of same-sex marriage (and it isn’t the Republican Party).
