Senator Harry Reid (D-NV)
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV)

(Washington, DC) The Republican National Committee announced today that they are launching robocalls to the constituents of Congresswoman (and DNC Chairwoman) Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), and Senators Mark Begich (D-AK), Mary Landrieu (D-LA) and Kay Hagan (D-NC).

Reid and Wasserman Schultz are targeted due to their leadership roles.  Begich, Landrieu, and Hagan are up for re-election in potential swing states for Republicans.  The robocalls were launched on a day when it is expected that these particular Democrats will be visiting their states.  The calls urge constituents to demand these Democrat leaders “stop playing politics and stand up for veterans who deserve their benefits.”

The call follows a bipartisan vote in the House that would ensure the veterans receive their benefits.

“While Democrats played politics, Republicans in the House of Representatives took action to pass bipartisan legislation to make sure our veterans receive the benefits they earned,” said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. “Between jeopardizing the benefits for our veterans to shutting down the World War II Memorial, Democrats and President Obama are trying to make this shutdown as painful as possible for everyone. These brave Americans and their families have sacrificed so much for our country, it’s only fair that Senator Reid brings this vote to the floor.

“It’s imperative their constituents speak out so the government can end this shutdown and keep our commitment to the people who defended this country.”

Read the scripts below:

FOR SENATORS BEGICH, LANDRIEU, HAGAN AND REID:
Hi, this is ________ calling on behalf of the Republican National Committee. SENATOR (XX) and Senate Democrats think this shutdown is a game. They are playing politics by cutting off our veterans and their benefits. In a bi-partisan vote the House of Representatives wanted to make sure our veterans got the benefits they earned for fighting for our freedoms. But, SENATOR (XX) won’t negotiate. These men and women served our country with honor and yet SENATOR (XX) would rather put partisan politics ahead of honoring our commitment to the people who defended this country. Call SENATOR (XX) at xxx-xxx-xxxx and tell him/her to stand up for veterans and demand a vote in the Senate. This call has been paid for by the Republican National Committee at 202-863-8500.

FOR REP. DEBBIE WASSERMAN SCHULTZ:
Hi, this is ________ calling on behalf of the Republican National Committee. Congresswoman Debbie Wassserman Schultz thinks this shutdown is a game. She voted to cut off Florida’s veterans and their benefits while the government is shutdown.
