Republican for Iowa's U.S. Senate seat Sam Clovis speaks to citizens during a town hall at the Council Bluffs Public Library on Aug. 14, 2013.Sioux City, IA – Sam Clovis, Republican candidate for the United States Senate, took issue with comments made by President Obama during a cabinet meeting Tuesday where the President bolstered his willingness to circumvent Congress and the Constitution by use of Executive Actions. During the meeting, the President was quoted as saying ā€œWeā€™re not just going to be waiting for legislationā€¦Iā€™ve got a pen and Iā€™ve got a phone.ā€

In response, Sam Clovis said, ā€œThe President might have a pen and he might have a phone, but his comments yesterday leave many wondering whether he has access to a copy of the Constitution. Iā€™m willing to send him one if he needs one.ā€
Sam Clovis is running for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Senator Tom Harkin.Ā  Harkin announced in 2013 that he would not be seeking re-election after this current Congressional session.

Clovis continued by stating, ā€œOur Founding Fathers built this nation with the understanding that separation of powers and checks and balances were essential to a sound and prosperous republic. Time again, this President has shown that he has no regard for the Constitution. If elected to the U.S. Senate, Iowans can be assured that I will only support legislation that fits into the bounds set forth by the Constitution. In addition, I will always be a strong voice admonishing those who continue to believe they know better than those who laid the foundation for the greatest republic in the world.ā€

Sam Clovis holds a Masters in Business Administration in Management and a Doctorate in Public Administration.Ā  He is currently a tenured full professor at a private liberal arts college in northwest Iowa.Ā  He served in the United States Air Force for 25 years and still provides leadership to defense and homeland security institutions.Ā  He lives in Hinton, IA with his wife Charlotte and stepson Khan.Ā  More information on the candidate and his campaign may be obtained at www.samclovis.com.
