2012 Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney endorsed State Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) in Iowa’s U.S. Senate race.  The campaign just sent out a fundraising email from him this morning:

Friend,

You and I both know that 2014 is ripe for Republicans to take back the U.S. Senate. And Iowa is more than ready to play its part.

But it is going to take an incredibly strong Republican to defeat the Democrats as they look to defend this open seat that has been in their control for over three decades. Thankfully, Iowa Republicans have such a candidate in Joni Ernst.

As a mother, soldier and proven conservative, Joni has the kind of experience, skillset and discipline it will take to not only win this important seat, but to also take Iowa values to help turn around the mess in Washington.

Joni is first and foremost a mother. She understands what needs to be done now so that her daughter and her generation inherit the same great nation each of us inherited. Joni is also a soldier—she has proudly served her state and nation in uniform for nearly two decades in order to defend and protect the freedoms that make this country the greatest in the world. As a Lt. Colonel in the Iowa Army National Guard, she understands the importance of a strong national defense – both at home and abroad. During her years of service, Joni has always answered the call to duty whether it meant taking command of the largest battalion in Iowa’s National Guard or deploying to the Middle East to lead some of Iowa’s bravest men and women in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Joni is also a proven conservative with a great record as a state senator in Iowa. She supported and helped pass the largest tax decrease in Iowa’s history (over $4.4 billion in savings for Iowa families and businesses over the next decade) and has worked to implement policies and programs that have made Iowa even more “job friendly” – resulting in Iowa’s unemployment rate dropping from over 6% down to its current 4.2% – fifth lowest in the nation. Just as importantly, Joni already has a record of fighting against Obamacare and you can be sure she will continue that fight in Washington.

We need Iowa to have a voice in the U.S. Senate that will protect and promote traditional conservative values, and Joni’s proven record in the state senate, her decades of leadership as a military officer and her commitment to the values that were passed on to her as a girl on a Montgomery County farm make it clear to me that she is the very best Iowa has to offer.

Please consider making a donation of $25, $50 or $100 or whatever you can afford today to support Joni’s campaign in this critical senate race. Joni has the kind of leadership and experience that is needed to get Washington back on track and electing her as Iowa’s next United States Senator is an important first step in the right direction.

Now, more than ever, we need someone who will demand fiscal responsibility in Washington and will put up a strong fight against Obamacare. Mother, soldier and proven conservative, Joni Ernst, is ready to do just that. Join our efforts by making a contribution to Joni’s campaign today. Any and every contribution will make a difference.

Sincerely,

Mitt Romney
