(Dubuque, IA) Today, Rod Blum, Republican nominee for Congress in Iowa’s 1st District, announced a fundraising total of over $148,000 for the filing period covering May 15 – June 30. The campaign also reported over $260,000 cash-on-hand, doubling the total of Democrat opponent Pat Murphy.

In stark contrast to Murphy, who received at most 37% of his total from inside of Iowa, over 81% of Blum’s contributions were received from Iowa, with over 75% coming from voters in the 1st District. Additionally, while 88% of Blum’s total was received from individuals, nearly 70% of Murphy’s donations were from special interest groups.

“It’s truly humbling to see so much individual, local support for our campaign,” said Blum. “The Eastern Iowans we talk to every day are convinced that America can do better by implementing common-sense policies that get our economy booming again and improve the lives of all Americans. We are encouraged that everyday citizens from our state are embracing our message as evidenced by our strong in-state financial support.”

Report Highlights:

Cash-on-hand Strength:
Blum reported a 2 to 1 cash-on-hand over Murphy, with a total of over $260,000 in the campaign’s account. Blum continues to demonstrate financial responsibility and the ability to conserve resources for a robust voter-contact program in the fall.

Strong Iowa, In-District Support: In a sign of Blum’s strong Iowa support, 81% of his contributions were from Iowa, with over 75% received from the 1st District. This contrasts with Murphy, who received at most 37% of his total for the period from inside Iowa.

Support from Individuals: While Murphy received nearly 70% of his total from special interest groups, 88% of Blum’s total was received from individual donors.

Building on 2012: The competitiveness of this district in 2014 is highlighted by the fact that Blum’s total of over $148,000 improved on fundraising by the GOP nominees in Iowa’s 1st and 2nd congressional districts for the same period in 2012 by over $17,000 and $32,000 respectively.

Rod Blum is the Republican nominee for United States Congress in Iowa’s 1st District. A member of the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Young Guns program, Rod graduated with a finance degree from Loras College and received his MBA from the University of Dubuque.
