Over the last ten years or so weā€™ve seen a dramatic shift in how our nation views the institution of marriage. Using primarily the courts, those advocating same-sex marriage have won a series of victories that resemble something of a legal tsunami. I can understand the impulse of some Christians to suggest that we need to get the government out of marriage altogether. But marriage isnā€™t simply a religious ordinance, itā€™s also a civil union. It involves such things as paternity and property, and these are matters that government has a legitimate interest in. We must not change the correct definition of marriage in reaction to the government foolishly mandating an incorrect one.
