Congressman Steve King (R-IA) released his second TV ad in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District race on the heels of his Democratic opponent, Jim Mowrer, pulling his from the Des Moines market. Mowrer’s campaign cancelled broadcast advertising on KCCI and WHO-TV. This month the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) pulled out of the race to focus elsewhere.
Mowrer’s 3rd quarter filings shows his campaign has just $242,000 on hand compared to King’s campaign reporting that they have $736,871 on hand to finish the race.
“The handwriting is on the wall for Jim Mowrer,” remarked Michael Stevens, King for Congress Campaign Manager. “His mismanagement of campaign resources has caused him to cancel planned advertising at a time when a new poll shows Congressman King with a commanding 13 point lead. With this evidence of poor judgment, it’s no wonder the majority of likely voters in the 4th District will be voting to re-elect Congressman Steve King.”
A poll released last week by The Polling Company/Woman Trend shows King leading Mowrer by 13 points – 51 to 38%. A Loras College poll taken in September shows the incumbent Congressman with 11 point lead. Republican also enjoy a sizable lead in early voting. As of October 17, 10,473 more Republicans had requested absentee ballots in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District than Democrats. At this time in 2012, Democrat absentee ballot requests exceeded Republicans by 1125 in the 4th District.
The new ad released by the King campaign today will air across the 4th Congressional District.
The transcript of the ad reads, ““In Iowa, we tell it like it is. I’ve been telling Washington over and over and rather loudly about threats building outside our country because they’ve ignored border security. And, financial threats from within, due to Obamacare and our stifling debt. On the other hand, my opponent’s for amnesty, for Obamacare, and for Nancy Pelosi. And that’s telling it like it is.”
