Jesus says in Matthew, “I  who am speaking to you am the very One who was responsible for the law of Moses; it was I who gave it to Moses, and it is I alone who can truly interpret it.”  Jesus’ authority is unique because unlike any other rabbi – He claims to speak as God.

Jesus is not  just  some mere teacher,  mere man,  expounder  of  the law,  another scribe, Pharisee or prophet.  He is infinitely more than that – He is God the Son in the flesh presenting the truth of God.

It is an incredible fact that at this point in history the very Son of God had been among us (“the Word became flesh and dwelt among us”).  Though He came in the likeness of  sinful  flesh,  He speaks with divine authority and His every word is of  crucial importance to us.
