Old-Rugged-Cross.jpgMartin Luther once said “This is that mystery which is rich in divine grace to sinners: wherein by a wonderful exchange our sins are no longer ours but Christ’s, and the righteousness of Christ not Christ’s but ours.  He has emptied himself of his righteousness that he might clothe us with it and fill us with it; and he has taken our evils upon himself that he might deliver us from them.”

The Bible says Jesus who knew no sin, for our sake, became sin.  Why?  So that we might become the righteousness of God.  God’s Son on the cross became the very thing that God the Father despises.  So how should we respond to this mystery?

Luther said we are to learn Christ and Him crucified.  We are to pray to Christ, our Righteousness, and confess our sin.  Christ took upon Himself what was ours and gives to us what was rightfully His.  We should be eternally grateful as a result.
