Weā€™re hearing a lot lately about ā€œincome inequality.ā€ Itā€™s a discussion that always seems to end up with the conclusion that government must do something. Actually, weā€™d be better served with regard to income if the government would STOP doing somethingā€”but I digress.

Those demanding equality of income are quick to blame the disparity of income on the alleged greed of those who possess more than they do, thus they attempt to claim the moral high ground. But the greedy pursue things for themselves with little regard one way or the other for anyone else. The envious, however, want what someone else has, and, failing to get it, donā€™t want anyone else to have it either. Envy is no more virtuous than greed. It may even be worse.
