Religious liberty has made a lot of media headlines lately:  the recent Supreme Court case won by Hobby Lobby, explicitly allowing for profit businesses to assert religious liberty rights, the uproar over the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFPA) in Indiana and Arkansas, and the upcoming Supreme Court decision as to the definition of marriage.   In a recent speech by Allan P. Kirby, Jr. of the Center for Constitutional Studies in Washington, D.C., he states “the conflict is not between gay rights and religious liberty, but between the sexual revolution and Christianity.

So, what does the Constitution really say and mean about religious liberty.  Must Christians be compelled to act against their consciences? Will the Left prevail over the fight for religious freedom?  Is the religious liberty movement increasing in cultural strength?  Will religious liberty be one of the major issues in the 2016 presidential election? Sam Clovis, professor of economics at Morningside College, a private liberal arts college located in Northwest Iowa, will talk about these issues in a town hall meeting on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the Waterloo Center for the Arts, 225 Commercial Avenue, Waterloo.  The general public is invited to attend.  No reservation is required.  A free-will donation is requested to cover expenses.

Sam Clovis holds an MBA from Golden Gate University and a Ph.D. in public administration from the University of Alabama.  He spent 25 years in the Air Force where he commanded the 70th Fighter Squadron and ultimately rose to the rank of Colonel.  He worked for the Homeland Security Institute from 2004-2010 and taught classes in the Masters of Public Administration program at Iowa State University.  Sam is perhaps best known as the former host of the conservative radio show “Impact with Sam Clovis” on KSCJ-AM.

Sponsored by Republicans of Black Hawk County as part of its outreach program to provide informative and educational town hall meetings on issues important to Iowans.  Located at 2207 Falls Avenue, Waterloo, IA 50701, 319-233-2183. www.blackhawkgop.com
