freedom-rockA complaint filed by Americans United for the Separation of Church and State says a silhouette of a soldier kneeling in front of a cross placed in front of the Freedom Rock.  They said an anonymous Knoxville resident alerted them to cross.  Freedom Rock is a landmark honoring veterans at Young’s Park in Knoxville, IA.

In response to the complaint a rally has been planned for Sunday, August 3oth at 12:00p until 2:00p to pressure city leaders to keep the cross.

“A rock, honoring and respecting our American Veterans has came under fire. We have been asked to do something truly appalling, and disrespectful. A cross, meant to honor our fallen, has been formally asked to be taken down,” Rally organizer Doug Goff told Caffeinated Thoughts in an email.

Goff said the cross was not placed at Freedom Rock for religious reasons, but to symbolize those who lost their lives in service to our country.  Goff said he’s calling on everyone to accept the responsibility to defend the values Americans hold dear by attending the rally on Sunday.

“We must show the city council that the city of Knoxvile supports this rock,” Goff Added.
