(Des Moines, IA) A crowd of several hundred filled Drake’s Olmsted Center Thursday afternoon to hear from U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY). 

The stump speech included foreign policy, the national debt, and Paul’s signature claim that he’s the only candidate “to support the entire Bill of Rights”. Cheers of “President Paul!” and “End the Fed!” broke out before and during the nearly half-hour speech. 

Paul’s speech to the largely student crowd also included plenty of literary references, including a reference to Gollum’s desire for power as a thinly veiled jab at Donald Trump, and discussion of To Kill a Mockingbird as it related to the poor state of the judicial system and our 4th Amendment rights. 

The energy at this Rand Paul’s event was markedly increased from previous non-student events, lending some credence to the idea that Paul may out-perform his polling numbers on caucus night.
