(Des Moines, IA) Americans for Prosperity-Iowa is proud to announce it’s support of the Iowa Senate subcommittee’s decision to advance Senate Study Bill 1264. The bill would give patients facing terminal illness access to medicines that have passed Phase 1 of the Food and Drug Administration’s approval process but are not yet available in pharmacies.
This free-market solution provides another option for a terminally ill patient, one that otherwise may not be available to them until it’s too late. The legislation was brought at the request of Senator Rick Bertrand who has a friend diagnosed with Huntington’s disease.
Drew Klein, AFP-Iowa state director stated: “This decision puts us one step closer to helping those in dire need of healthcare options in our state. We applaud the Iowa Senate subcommittee’s decision to take action on this issue. It demonstrates that states can innovate and find solutions without the interference of the federal government. Terminally ill patients deserve every opportunity available to fight back.”
Neighboring states including Illinois, Missouri, Minnesota and South Dakota have all adopted Right to Try legislation.
