(West Des Moines, IA) State Senator Charles Schneider (R-West Des Moines) filed nomination papers with the Secretary of State’s office Wednesday to run for a second term in the Iowa Senate. Senator Schneider represents Iowa Senate District 22, which includes Clive, Waukee, West Des Moines, and Windsor Heights.

Senator Schneider served on the West Des Moines City Council from 2007 to 2012. He was elected to his first term in the Iowa Senate in 2012. He is ranking member of both the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Economic Development Appropriations subcommittee. Senator Schneider also serves on the Appropriations, Commerce, and Economic Growth committees. He is also an Assistant Minority Leader for the Senate Republican Caucus.

“Growing Iowa is my top priority. Doing so will require fiscal responsibility, a pro-growth and pro-jobs business environment, and an education system that prepares our children to compete in a 21st century economy and jobs market,” Senator Schneider said.

Senator Schneider is also counsel for Principal Financial Group, where he has worked since 2007. He was a member of the 2006-2007 Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute and of the Des Moines Business Record’s 2007 Forty Under 40 class. He also was a member of the 2003-2004 Leadership Iowa class. In 2011, he received the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute’s Distinguished Government Leadership Award.

He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Creighton University, and his law and MBA degrees from the University of Iowa. He and his wife Lisa reside in West Des Moines and are members of St. Francis of Assisi Church.
