Iowa Right to Life and the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List praised U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, for his strong resolve to let the people have a say in the Supreme Court vacancy following Justice Antonin Scalia’s sudden death.

Jenifer Bowen, Executive Director of Iowa Right to Life, and SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser released the following joint comment:

We commend Senator Grassley for demanding that the American people have a say by waiting until we have elected a new president to fill this critical Supreme Court vacancy.

President Obama’s announcement of his nominee changes nothing. The people deserve a say. We know that President Obama would not nominate someone unless they agreed with his extreme view of supporting abortion on-demand, without restriction, paid for by the taxpayer.

Iowa should be proud of Senator Chuck Grassley’s service as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, his unwavering commitment to protecting unborn children and their mothers, and his utmost respect for the Constitution.

Pro-life groups are mobilizing the grassroots at: www.ProtectTheCourt.com where activists can send an immediate message to their U.S. Senators. The initial coalition includes: Concerned Women for America, Iowa Right to Life, March for Life, Priests for Life, Students for Life of America and Susan B. Anthony List.

The coalition will expand in the coming days and will include other grassroots activities, including a rapid response team and nationwide and state-based webcasts.
